The Borders Lodge – Koewacht
The Borders Lodge is a romantic luxury cottage located on a private estate with beautiful landscaped garden where peace is central.
The house is about 200 m2 on the ground floor, an entrance hall, master bedroom ' De Voorkamer ' with dressing r with 2 double bed 1. 60 m width / 2. 00 m length.
There is also a one person bedroom ' De koeienkamer ' with a single bed of 0. 90 m / 02. 00 m
The bathroom with large walk in shower is also equipped with a sink - towel rail - shaving mirror........
There is also a washing machine and dryer available.
A large separate toilet with washbasin. Both the bathroom and the toilet is wheelchair accessible .
There is also a fully equipped kitchen with 2 person dining area.
A large lounge with Chesterfield in English style - HD flat screen - DVD player with a large collection of movies - Audio system with radio and CD. From the sitting room there is a beautiful view on the large terrace with garden furniture and garden
On the 1e floor there is a second master bedroom in industrial style with large double bed - sitting area with HD flat Screen and Dvd player. In the room there is also a washbasin.
On the estate there is also a indoor heated swimmingpool and 2 sauna's. Guests can use the private wellnes center by reservation 1 day in advance and participation in the costs

The flax Koewacht village is a small rural village located on the Dutch / Belgian border and consists of 2 parts, the Belgian and Dutch Koewacht Koewacht which imperceptibly blend into each other. The region is a paradise for wonderful bike rides, hiking, relaxing, and hengelenn course of exploration to the historic cities of Ghent, Dendermonde, Antwerp, Holly, Middelburg and Veere The North Sea coast are 40 minutes drive from Time seems to have stopped and remained untouched nature, full of creeks and polders, dormant dikes, old smuggling routes and beautiful forests.
Koewacht is known for its flax culture, there is also a museum in which the processing of flax flax central. Its location on the border gives a unique character to the village and is a palette of blue and green as the flax fields around the village in bloom.
The name of the village refers to the 'cows wait.
The geographical position on the border has to do with the emergence of Koewacht during the Eighty Years' War. In 1586 the Belgian part belonged to the Catholic Spaniards. From Axel were regularly organized raids against the Spanish territory. In order to protect the border, a series of forts made: the Line of Communication between Holly and Sas van Gent. Of some forts are found only traces in the landscape back
but the Fort Masereel grew into a residential area that is now called Koewacht. The fort was predominantly inhabited by French mercenaries what the French words in the local dialect explains. At the site of the former fort is now the church of St. James and Philipus. The oldest part (the tower) dates from the eighteenth century. For the present stone church was a wooden building where nothing is left. That location for the fort is not arbitrary. In the sixteenth century the whole area is very humid and the fort is situated on the highest part and therefore remained dry. It guarded the access to Moerbeke Polder Polder and Ried.
As a result of the Belgian secession from the United Kingdom of the Netherlands in 1830, the village was divided into a Belgian and Dutch section.
